Polymer clay is a plasticized clay that is moldable just like other clays. I use Sculpey Premo Polymer Clay as well as Kato Polyclay, but that’s not to say that other brands/types are not fantastic also. The clay is softened by working it in your hands or running it through a pasta machine. After shaping it into beads or other shapes as you desire, it is baked in an oven following the manufacturer’s instructions and it comes out hard.
After cooling, the beads can be sanded and polished on a buffing machine, painted with glazes or left in their “unshiny” condition. The beads can then be combined with other types of beads to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
I have been learning new techniques like Mokume Gane, and trying out foils, metallic powders and inks. The fun never ends!
